Cautionary Tale Number 2 (among many!)

From a senior VSO:
Had a guy on IU (Individual Unemployability) with P&T (Permanent & Total), apply for an increase on 70% to get 100% outright - because someone told him he'd be exempt from property tax.
Got reduced.
Came to me bitching his 70% was P&T. Had to explain - it was... until you gave them permission and ASKED them to reevaluate it!!!!
What he did not understand was his state counted IU for property exemption.
Wound up losing about $1500 a month trying to save $800 a year.
Final ugly footnote to the story ... losing IU meant losing Chapter 35 benefits. Had to pull TWO kids out of college.
Never submit claims on your own.
ALWAYS ask your County VSO!
