The final words spoken by Sgt Johanny Rosario Pichardo to her officer as she rushed toward a mob at the gate when she noticed two women in need of help. Toward what became her untimely death.

That day she was not supposed to be at the gate. She had finished her shift at supply and asked to go to the gate. Driven by her desire to help people, women and children especially. Knowing the gate was a hostile area.

Those who join the service know the possibility of being put in a life or death situation. So there's no doubt as she witnessed what was unfolding that it could be the last thing she did but still she said,

"They need me, sir."
